How to add your number to the National DO NOT CALL Registry for FREE
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) manages the National Do Not Call Registry.
It is entirely FREE to use, and your registration never expires.
You can choose between two methods to sign up:
Option A: Register Online (Fastest Method)
If you have a computer, tablet, or smartphone, you can register up to three phone numbers at one time.
- Visit the official website: Go directly to donotcall.gov
- Click “Register Your Phone”: Select the orange button on the homepage
- Enter your details: Type in the phone numbers you want to protect, and enter your email address
- Check your inbox: The FTC will send an email from verify@donotcall.gov within a few minutes
- Click the verification link: Open the email and click the link inside within 72 hours to fully complete your registration
Option B: Register by Phone
If you prefer to talk on the phone, or do not use email, you can call the registry directly.
- You must call from the specific phone number you wish to register
- Dial the toll-free number: Call 1-888-382-1222
- Follow the automated prompts: The system will guide you through confirming your registration. If you have multiple phone numbers (like a house phone and a cell phone), you must repeat this call from each separate device.
Oklahoma Do Not Call Registry
Oklahoma has a dedicated state Telemarketer Restriction program managed directly by the Attorney General’s office.
It covers Oklahoma area codes (405, 539, 580, and 918).
Option A: Register Online (Fastest Method)
If you have a computer, tablet, or smartphone, you can register online.
- Visit the official website: Go directly to https://domino.oag.ok.gov/oagweb.nsf/DoNotCall
- Follow the automated prompts: Near the bottom of the page under ‘How do I register’ there is a link to ‘register on-line’. Click on those words and complete the online form.
Option B: Register by Phone
If you prefer to talk on the phone, or do not use email, you can call the registry directly.
Call the Oklahoma State Registry hotline directly at (405) 521-3921.
The Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office updates the list every three months (January, April, July, and October).
Once the quarterly list is distributed, legitimate businesses must immediately remove you from their databases.
Severe Penalties for Violators in Oklahoma
Oklahoma aggressively prosecutes telemarketers who violate state law.
Companies who deliberately dial a registered Oklahoma citizen can face severe civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation under the Telemarketer Restriction Act.
What the Registries Do Not Stop
Government registries only stop legitimate companies from trying to sell you something.
Legally, certain organizations can still contact you, including:
- Charities looking for donations
- Political groups campaigning for elections
- Legitimate debt collectors
- Surveys and polling organizations
- Companies you recently bought from: A business can legally call or text you if you have an established business relationship with them within recent months.
